Angola
Promotion of Explore in Angola will commence once a number of modules have been translated into Portuguese. It is envisaged that we will introduce Explore to Angola towards the end of 2025

Benin
The main language spoken in Benin is French,so we aim to offer the course there once we have translated sufficient modules into French. We have one trained Facilitator who will be working with Relay Trust and Explore when the time arrives.

Botswana
Defined by an expansive desert and a delta which provides some of the best game viewing on the continent, Explore has formed a partnership with a training company in Botswana known as Global Education hub. A number of facilitators have been trained and we currently have Explore groups in five prisons in the country that consists of both prison chaplains and inmates. Our hope is to have an Explore group in every prison in Botswana.

Burkina-Faso
A landlocked country in West Africa, facing immense challenges, our goal is to have a meaningful presence here by 2027.

Burundi
With both French and English being spoken in the country, it is our intention to promote Explore to the Burundian English-speaking churches in 2025. Burundi will then become part of our East African Region.

Cameroon
Cameroon lies at the crossroads of West and Central Africa. Christianity is dominant in Cameroon and presents a wonderful opportunity, in both English and French, for Explore. It is our intention to hold Facilitation training in English at the beginning of 2027 and in French towards the end of that year.

The main language spoken in the CAR is French, so we hope to offer the Explore course here once we have translated sufficient modules into French. Our trained Facilitators in the Cameroon will then work with us to introduce and offer Explore in 2026.

Eswatini
The Kingdom of Eswatini, surrounded by South Africa and Mozambique, is one of the smaller countries in Africa. We conducted two facilitation training conferences for the first time in April and July 2023. Explore was received warmly and there has been a steady growth in student enrollments since April.

Ethiopia
Having Explore in Ethiopia will require translations into Arabic and this is not within our current 3-year translation plan. We expect to begin promoting Explore in Ethiopia in 2027.

Gambia
As the smallest country in mainland Africa, The Gambia is proof that size does not signify significance. With 176 people per square kilometer, it is one of the most densely populated countries in Africa. We currently have a group of committed students who have completed the first seven Explore modules. They are working through the last module with the aim of graduating at the end of 2023.

Ghana
Although training has been provided in one section of Ghana, we have to date not been successful in establishing an Explore group in the country. As part of the West African hub we will be working with Relay Trust on a strategy for Ghana.

Kenya
Encompassing savannah plains, lake-lands, the dramatic Great Rift Valley and mountain highlands, Kenya is home to a diverse range of wildlife and people groups. Having established a foothold here, in the Western regions, Kenya is one of our fastest-growing countries with over 1200 module enrollments captured in the first 7 months of 2023. God has been at work in this country by providing opportunities for us to have several facilitation trainings, promote Explore to various churches and people, and to take Explore to refugees from various East African countries in the refugee camps in Kenya. Our hope is to establish our East African region with its hub in Nairobi by the end of 2023.

Lesotho
Our pressnce in this small land-locked country has produced several groups over the years and a coupleof graduates. We currently have a group of 8 students studying our second module.

Liberia
Liberia has a high level of English-speaking Christians although there a vast number of indigenous languages spoken. Explore has one trained facilitator in Liberia and he is currently walking over 40 students through the 2nd module, Explore the Life of Jesus.

Madagascar
In August 2023, we took Explore to Madagascar for the fiirst time. Our facilitation training sessions, although made challenging because of the language barriers, were conducted with over 60 attendees. we have translated the first few units of our first module and have ongoing translation work for the rest of the module into the local dialect. Our hope is to return to the country in April 2024.

Mozambique
One of the largest countries in Africa, Mozambique is also one of its poorest. A staggering 60% of the population live in extreme poverty. Despite these grim statistics, the gospel and church is growing rapidly. We have had several groups of students in Mozambique who have completed all 8 Explore modules and graduated. We currently have over 100 students studying various modules and writing exams in Portuguese.

Malawi
Despite its immense natural beauty and incredible people, Malawi remains one of the poorest countries in the world. Half its population are under 15 years of age. Explore has thrived in Malawi and has produced many graduates and students over the years. It is one of our fastest-growing countries. The work done by our facilitators has reached the rural areas of the country and through their efforts, Explore is being studied by many pastors in rural Malawi who have not received any theological training. We currently have an Explore group in one of the country’s prisons with the hope of taking it to other prisons.

Rwanda
Often referred to as the “land of a thousand hills” — Rwanda is famous for its breathtaking scenery. Our work into this land-locked country has enabled us to gain a vital and strategic foothold in the very heart of the continent. We currently have a group of students who are working through the last Explore module with hopes of graduating at the end of 2023.

Sierra Leone
We have a number of agreements with Relay Trust, a UK charity working in West Africa. They have created an Explore hub in Freetown and Facilitation training was held there in 2021. Some of the trained Facilitators are working their way through the Explore modules prior to establishing their own Explore groups. We will work in partnership with Relay Trust to be able to take Explore into many areas of Africa where internet is not accessible. We currently have a group of students studying through our second module.

Somalia

South Africa
The southern-most country in Africa, and the home of GWC and Explore, South Africa. Explore has laid down many roots in the country and 4 378 students, over the past years, have had the joy of using it as a discipleship and leadership training school.
In the words of the Rector of one of the larger churches in our denomination; “If we are faithful pastors, we shouldn’t be wanting to give the impression that we are the only ones who can read and understand the Bible – we should empower more people to do that for themselves. The genius of this course, is that it really is all about the Bible, pointing people back to the Scriptures, again and again.”

South Sudan
Facilitation training was held in the country in 2022 which has led to groups studying the Explore material. We currently have active and committed groups in the country and are working alongside one of our facilitators as he promotes Explore to various churches and people.

Tanzania
Promotion of Explore in Tanzania commenced a few years back but the course needs to be translated into Swahili before we can launch it. We have aligned with a new translation partner and plan to produce a few modules in 2024.

Togo

Uganda
Located at the north end of Lake Victoria in east-central Africa, Uganda has a high proportion of Christians. Over the past years Explore in the country has continued to grow and many facilitators have been trained to lead Explore groups across the country. In partnership with African Enterprise, our goal is to continue to reach all the corners of Uganda by conducting facilitation training and promoting Explore.

Zambia
Surrounded by eight other African countries, Zambia is at the crossroads of Central, Southern and East Africa. Zambia is a Christian country with freedom of religion. Having only recently expanded our reach here, we are proud to be partnering with African Enterprise and Good News Jail and Prison Ministry in 2023 in an effort to take Explore to all the corners of Zambia.
Isaac Chiumia coordinates Explore activities in Zambia and ensures that men and women are trained to be facilitators and that groups and partnerships in the country run smoothly.

Zimbabwe
